Wiz & Expel partner to strengthen cloud security resilience

Thu, 29th Aug 2024

Wiz and Expel have announced a strategic partnership to improve the cyber resilience of cloud environments. The partnership integrates Wiz's cloud-native application protection platform (CNAPP) with Expel’s managed detection and response (MDR) services. This collaboration aims to enhance security across various cloud-based infrastructures.

Yonni Shelmerdine, Chief Product Officer at Expel, highlighted the growing importance of securing cloud infrastructures due to increasing cyber threats: "Cloud infrastructures are increasingly desirable targets for attackers as more workloads move to, or are born in, the cloud." She added that Expel’s extensive experience in cloud security would significantly benefit Wiz customers.

"Expels cloud knowledge runs deep. This partnership offers Wiz customers even greater ability to modernise and grow, knowing Expel’s team of security experts has their backs 24x7x365, applying a detection and response strategy across their entire security stack, with Wiz as a cornerstone," Shelmerdine stated.

The partnership addresses a common challenge faced by many organisations: the difficulty in detecting and responding to risks in cloud environments. Combining Expel’s cloud detection and response expertise with Wiz’s CNAPP platform aims to provide comprehensive cloud security coverage. Expel’s role will involve enriching cloud issues identified by Wiz with deep contextual information and correlating events across various tools within the cloud environment to enhance detection accuracy.

Expel has already analysed various issues detected by Wiz, including those generated through Kubernetes runtime sensors. The ingesting and analysis process involves looking for post-exploit behaviour and providing real-time investigation status updates. These updates cover various security concerns, including container and Kubernetes security, cloud detection and response, CNAPP, and cloud workload protection platforms (CWPP).

Oron Noah, VP of Product Extensibility and Partnerships at Wiz, remarked on the complementary strengths of both companies. “Expel’s expertise in cloud security and rapid incident response perfectly complements Wiz's CNAPP capabilities, helping deliver enhanced protection for our customers' cloud environments," said Noah.

Noah added that this collaboration aligns with Wiz's commitment to securing complex cloud infrastructures, allowing customers to focus on their primary business goals. "This partnership continues our commitment to securing complex cloud infrastructures, enabling our customers to focus on what truly matters to their business goals."

The newly announced partnership will offer tailored MDR solutions to meet the unique needs of each organisation’s cloud environment. Expel and Wiz plan to amplify the value provided to their customers by integrating their respective security operations more seamlessly.

To further explore the benefits of this partnership, Expel, Wiz, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have scheduled a webinar for September. The webinar will feature discussions on securing cloud investments and sharing experiences from joint customers who have benefited from the combined capabilities of Wiz and Expel. These customers leverage Wiz's advanced cloud visibility and security alongside Expel’s MDR services to achieve enhanced protection and operational efficiency within AWS environments.

Jason Waits, Chief Information Security Officer at Inductive Automation, provided a testimonial on the partnership's benefits. "This partnership between Expel and Wiz helps alleviate the burden of sifting through alerts for my team, allowing us to identify threats more efficiently so we can get back to more pressing business priorities," said Waits.

Waits further remarked on the peace of mind provided by the collaboration, adding, “Expel and Wiz combine to be the powerful one-two punch we need, granting us peace of mind knowing our business is protected so we can focus on continuing to innovate and further our own operational goals.”
