Varonis expands data security support to include Databricks

Mon, 9th Dec 2024

Varonis has announced the expansion of its data security coverage to include Databricks, enhancing its capabilities in discovering, classifying, and safeguarding data within the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform.

With the inclusion of Databricks, Varonis aims to assist organisations in managing the complexities of securing enterprise-grade data, analytics, and AI solutions at scale. Databricks, used by 60% of the Fortune 500, poses increased risks with growing data, necessitating advanced security measures.

The new integration offers a suite of features designed to strengthen data security. Varonis identifies at-risk data automatically by detecting sensitive data across various elements of a data lakehouse such as workspaces and databases. It provides insights into user and group access permissions within Databricks environments.

In addition to identifying vulnerabilities, Varonis emphasises the importance of proactive remediation. The system enables organisations to swiftly address and resolve issues, closing potential security gaps before they can be exploited by malicious entities.

Comprehensive threat detection is another critical element of Varonis' offering. The platform ensures active monitoring across potential attack vectors, particularly focusing on threats posed by unauthorised access using legitimate credentials.

Brian Vecci, Field CTO at Varonis, highlighted the importance of their role under the shared responsibility model, stating, "The shared responsibility model places the responsibility for protecting enterprise data squarely on IT and security teams. Visibility and automation are essential to address and manage escalating risks and ongoing challenges associated with securing massive cloud data warehouses and lakehouses, where attackers are more likely to gain access with user credentials than they are to hack in."

The expanded support for Databricks applies across major cloud service providers, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, underscoring Varonis' commitment to delivering robust security solutions across diverse platforms.
