Optic Security Group shines at 2025 New Zealand Security Awards
Optic Security Group has achieved wins in two categories at the 2025 New Zealand Security Awards held in Auckland.
The group's Victoria University of Wellington upgrade team, led by Aaron Johnson and including Anthony Taingahue, Ruperake Charles Lave, and James Sutherland, secured the Security Integrator of the Year category. The award recognises the efforts of security integrators who demonstrate performance, reliability, and service.
Managing Director Michael Cunningham attributed the success to the collective effort and cohesion within the Wellington team, highlighting the importance of collaboration in achieving effective results.
"A highly performing team has many component parts. The sum of those parts produces the results, and our Wellington team has set the standard for all of us meet at Optic Security," said Managing Director Michael Cunningham.
Cunningham applauded the team's achievements and emphasised their commitment to cultivating strong working relationships with clients and delivering tangible outcomes.
"Well done team, you have been recognised for what you have worked hard to deliver, the deep customer relationships built on service and ownership of the results. National champions, we are all very proud of you!"
NZ General Manager Nik Boeinghoff also praised the team's consistent commitment to excellence in both service delivery and internal cooperation.
"Whether it's their strong customer service, operational performance, or team collaboration, they continue to set a high standard for others to follow, and it's truly gratifying to see that effort recognised," he said.
The Wellington team's work at Victoria University of Wellington has been highlighted as a benchmark for others within Optic Security Group to emulate, according to company leaders.
Consultant recognition
In addition to the integrator award, Auckland-based Group Brand Strategy & Innovation Director Nicholas Dynon was named Security Consultant of the Year. This award acknowledges the contributions of consultants in advancing security outcomes for client organisations.
If follows previous accolades for Dynon, who was recently named Outstanding Contract Security Manager/Director at The Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs) in New Zealand, and was listed in the LifeSafetyAlliance.org 2025 Top 40 Global Thought Leaders in Security & Life Safety. He is the first New Zealander to receive the latter honour.
"It's a great honour to receive this award," said Nick. "The opportunities I have to work with such amazing customer organisations is something that sets Optic Security Group apart, and I'd like to acknowledge my talented colleagues who have been critical in my professional development."
Dynon's recognition was one of 19 awards presented at the event, which saw approximately 140 nominations and 51 finalists across categories.
