Halcyon unveils Linux-focused anti-ransomware solution

Today

Halcyon has launched a new anti-ransomware solution, Halcyon Linux, specifically to enhance protection for Linux-based systems. The solution was introduced in response to a significant rise in ransomware attacks targeting Linux environments.

In 2023, incidents involving Linux-based ransomware increased by 75%, highlighting the need for robust security measures for these systems that are often overlooked compared to their Windows counterparts.

Jon Miller, CEO and Co-founder of Halcyon, commented on the growing threat landscape. "When it comes to ransomware protection, organisations typically prioritise securing Windows environments because that's where the ransomware operators focused most of their attacks. However, Linux-based systems are at the core of most any organisation's infrastructure, and protecting these systems is often an afterthought," he said.

Miller further explained the vulnerabilities associated with Linux systems. "The fact that Linux systems usually are always on and available means they provide the perfect beachhead for establishing persistence and moving laterally in a targeted network, and they can be leveraged for data theft where the exfiltration is easily masked by normal network traffic. As more ransomware operators are developing the capability to target Linux systems alongside Windows, it is imperative that organisations have the ability to keep pace with the expanded threat."

Halcyon Linux is a part of the broader Halcyon Anti-Ransomware Platform and offers several key features aimed at comprehensive protection and rapid response capability. These features include real-time visibility and detection of ransomware-specific behaviours, integrated ransomware response capabilities, and data exfiltration prevention measures.

The system is designed to deliver robust performance without significantly impacting resources, ensuring that critical environments such as database servers and virtualised workloads maintain optimal performance levels. Halcyon Linux also offers cross-platform coverage, enabling consistent ransomware protection across both Windows and Linux endpoints.

One of the offering's significant aspects is its 24/7/365 Security Analyst Monitoring. This ensures continuous threat response, allowing security teams in organisations to focus on other critical tasks.

Halcyon Linux aims to address the growing need for enhanced security in Linux-based systems, which are increasingly being targeted by ransomware attacks. Integrating into the broader Halcyon Anti-Ransomware Platform offers comprehensive protection across Windows and Linux environments, ensuring businesses can safeguard their infrastructure from evolving ransomware threats.

With features such as real-time visibility, data exfiltration prevention, and continuous monitoring, Halcyon Linux provides organisations with the tools needed to strengthen their defences and maintain operational continuity.
