Commvault unveils Clumio Backtrack for AWS data recovery
Commvault has announced the introduction of Clumio Backtrack, a capability designed for rapid recovery of datasets stored in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3).
The new feature is tailored to aid enterprises in quickly reverting data objects stored in Amazon S3 to a specific version at a designated point in time. This functionality is particularly beneficial for cloud operations, IT, and security teams in recovering data from errors, accidents, or cyberattacks, effectively restoring data to its last known optimal state. Additionally, this capability supports recovery on a large scale.
Leveraging Amazon S3 Versioning, Backtrack enables organisations to retrieve datasets of virtually any size, ranging from individual data objects to entire Amazon S3 buckets that could house billions of objects.
This technology significantly enhances the ease and speed of large-scale data recovery. By utilising a serverless architecture that allows dynamic scaling, Backtrack can swiftly revert large volumes of data even moments after a data issue is discovered.
There are numerous scenarios where swiftly reverting massive amounts of data to a specific point in time is advantageous.
This could be critical in cases like accidental data deletion, the onset of incorrect data uploads from applications, or in response to data encryption by cybercriminals demanding ransom.
The demand for object storage services such as Amazon S3 is rising, especially with the projected growth in the cloud artificial intelligence (AI) market, which could exceed USD $647 billion by 2030. This growth is driven by AI and machine learning (ML) data production, which necessitates storage solutions that manage substantial data volumes and the complexity of modern AI workloads.
"With the increasing complexity of enterprise data environments, businesses need fast, scalable, and secure data recovery solutions for the cloud-first world," said Woon Jung, CTO - Cloud Native, Commvault. "We're thrilled to offer a level of granularity and point-in-time options for object recovery that spans billions of objects and can help customers drive even greater benefits from their cloud investments."
Raphael Meyerowitz, Partner Go to Market VP at Presidio, commented, "At Presidio, we understand the critical need for agility and resilience in today's cloud world."
"As Commvault continues to push the boundaries of cyber resilience and cloud innovation, we're thrilled to extend our collaboration to deliver true resilience and operational continuity to large-scale AWS environments. Commvault's new Clumio Backtrack empowers enterprises to safeguard their critical data with rapid recovery capabilities for complex, large-scale challenges."
Over the past year, Commvault has made considerable advances in supporting cloud-centric customers. This includes its acquisition of Clumio and the availability of several offerings such as Cloud Rewind, Air Gap Protect, and Cleanroom Recovery across multiple cloud platforms. The Clumio Backtrack launch is an extension of Commvault's expertise in cyber resilience, enhancing recovery capabilities for global enterprises.
Commvault plans to provide early access to Clumio Backtrack in December, with a broader global release anticipated in early 2025.
