Semperis secures USD $125m funding, appoints new executives

Fri, 21st Jun 2024

Identity security company Semperis has secured USD $125 million in growth financing from J. P. Morgan and Hercules Capital.

This latest round of funding follows a USD $200 million Series C round in 2022 led by KKR and is intended to further support product innovation and the expanding global customer base of Semperis.

Semperis' CEO, Mickey Bresman, expressed optimism regarding the financing, stating that it would "accelerate the investment in R&D and expand our global footprint to meet market demand.” The company has been recognised on Deloitte's Technology Fast 500 list for four consecutive years due to its performance in the industry. Semperis specialises in providing a comprehensive identity system defence platform aimed at reducing the success rate of ransomware and other cyber attacks.

Scott Bluestein, CEO and CIO of Hercules Capital, commented on Semperis' role in the industry: "Semperis is a clear leader in the urgently needed area of identity system defence, with machine-learning-based attack prevention, detection and response. Leading organisations around the world depend on Semperis to safeguard their hybrid Active Directory environment, which is foundational to the IT infrastructure and heavily targeted by attackers."

Accompanying the financing announcement, Semperis has also added three new executives to its C-suite, each bringing substantial cybersecurity and IPO experience. Jeff Bray has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer. Bray has a background leading finance teams at cybersecurity vendors such as Rapid7, Imprivata, and Invicti Security, managing more than USD $1 billion in capital markets transactions. On his new role, Bray stated, "Semperis, with new support from J.P. Morgan and Hercules Capital, and our existing team of worldclass backers, will continue to drive innovations to disrupt cyberattacks."

Mike DeGaetano, the new Chief Revenue Officer, has a history in sales leadership with organisations including Symantec, RSA, Zscaler, Forcepoint, and most recently, Broadcom. DeGaetano was responsible for establishing the cybersecurity sales team at Broadcom following the Symantec acquisition.

Annabel Lewis joins as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary. She has two decades of experience in the cybersecurity and tech industries, encompassing roles at Trustwave, Singtel, and Onapsis. Lewis' expertise includes handling mergers, acquisitions, IPO initiatives, legal, compliance, and corporate information security responsibilities.

The funding will allow Semperis to continue to focus on its innovation in product development and to support the demands of its growing customer base through a 100% channel model. The company is known for its identity-driven cyber resilience solutions, which are trusted by large enterprises and government agencies worldwide. According to Forrester's 2024 Total Economic Impact Report, deployment of Semperis' solutions can potentially save enterprises millions of dollars by significantly reducing downtime and manual threat monitoring efforts.

The financing and new executive appointments align with the company's strategic goals of strengthening its cybersecurity measures and expanding its global reach. Semperis continues to play a critical role in securing hybrid and multi-cloud environments for a wide range of organisations.
