Samsung reveals One UI 7 beta with AI & security boosts

Wed, 11th Dec 2024

Samsung has announced the launch of the One UI 7 beta programme in selected markets.

The new operating system introduces powerful AI features and simplified controls and promises a glimpse into scalable AI ecosystems of the future. One of the standout features is the advanced writing assist tools within the OS. These tools will give users capabilities such as summarising, spelling and grammar checks, and formatting. Additionally, the OS provides an option for call recording and automatic transcription, removing the tediousness of manually taking notes.

A feature known as the "Now Bar" will change how users interact with their lock screens by highlighting relevant activities without needing to unlock the device. This includes functionalities like Interpreter, Music, Recording, and Stopwatch, among others.

The camera user experience has been redesigned, offering both content creators and everyday users more intuitive control over their camera settings.

On the security front, One UI 7 offers enhanced protective measures to safeguard personal data while offering transparency and integrated security settings. Samsung introduced Knox Matrix, a comprehensive security solution designed to enhance protection across connected Samsung devices, including Galaxy mobile devices, TVs, and home appliances. Through the Knox Matrix dashboard, users can quickly check the security status of these devices.

Users will also benefit from "Maximum Restrictions," which adds controls to prevent automatic reconnections to insecure Wi-Fi networks. This feature ensures that data remains private while still providing the option to connect manually if necessary.

A new "Safe Install" feature, together with the existing Auto Blocker, provides users an added layer of protection against unintentional app sideloading. Additionally, the "Identity Check" feature is designed to activate in cases where a device's PIN has been compromised, offering assurance with exclusive Galaxy protections.

The official release of One UI 7 will begin with upcoming Galaxy S Series devices in the first quarter of 2025. These devices will include further AI capabilities, some of which are hardware-dependent and executed directly on the device.

Samsung has committed to extending its OS upgrade policy, ensuring that the update gradually reaches other Galaxy devices as well.
