McAfee & Samsung extend AI-driven mobile security partnership

Thu, 1st Aug 2024

McAfee has announced an extension of its long-standing partnership with Samsung, marking the tenth consecutive year of their collaboration.

This partnership aims to enhance protection against online threats for consumers, addressing privacy, identity, and personal information security.

Tyler McGee, head of APAC at McAfee, commented on the ongoing collaboration, "Our continued partnership with Samsung helps us do what matters most: protect more people so they can live their lives online with confidence. With the introduction of Samsung's new mobile AI experience and McAfee's continued focus on using AI to fight against AI scams, we're thrilled to continue our partnership."

As part of the extended agreement, Samsung's latest mobile devices, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy Tab S9 series, Galaxy Z Flip6, and Galaxy Z Fold6, will support the McAfee Security app. The app features McAfee Scam Protection, a patented AI technology that identifies and alerts users to dangerous URLs in text messages. It also blocks risky sites when users inadvertently click on scam links found in messages, emails, social media posts, and other forms of communication.

This security enhancement will be available for purchase through the Galaxy Store in 98 markets. Consumers can easily buy and install the McAfee Security app on their Samsung devices, ensuring continuous protection against the increasing number of AI-generated phishing scams. A recent survey by McAfee highlighted that 50% of mobile phone users feel that AI has made it harder to identify online scams, with 39% admitting to having clicked on scam messages.

The partnership aims to address significant concerns among consumers. McAfee's Mobile Threat Survey revealed that 90% of people globally worry about protecting their online privacy and identity when using their mobile phones. With the rise of AI, cybercriminals can create more convincing and personalised scams, complicating efforts for individuals to discern trustworthy content.

To further mitigate these risks, the latest Samsung devices will feature Advanced Intelligence settings, which allow users to control the extent to which their data is used to enhance AI experiences by disabling online data processing if desired. This feature aims to provide users with more comprehensive protection against evolving online threats.

The McAfee Security app available through the Samsung Galaxy Store is McAfee Total Protection, which includes McAfee Scam Protection. This app leverages AI technology to combat the surge in AI-generated phishing scams. The availability of this app on a range of Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series, Galaxy Z Flip6, and Galaxy Z Fold6, provides users with extensive protection options.

Overall, the extended partnership between McAfee and Samsung seeks to empower consumers to navigate their online lives more securely amid an increasingly sophisticated landscape of digital threats.
