iProov earns first global FIDO certification for face biometrics

iProov, a provider of biometric identity solutions, has announced that its Dynamic Liveness Solution is the first to achieve global certification for face biometric identity verification from the FIDO Alliance. This development marks a milestone for the industry, as the FIDO Alliance aims to reduce the world's reliance on passwords through robust remote identity verification systems based on facial biometrics.

The FIDO Alliance, a open industry association, has launched this new certification programme to evaluate the performance and usability of such systems. iProov's Dynamic Liveness Solution seamlessly passed the rigorous accreditation process conducted by Ingenium Biometrics, a FIDO face verification accredited lab. The process entailed over 10,000 tests, with iProov achieving a flawless success record, including a 0% Imposter Attack Presentation Accept Rate (IAPAR) and a 0.14% False Reject Rate (FRR).

Digital identity verification has experienced rapid expansion over the past five years. According to Juniper Research, more than 70 billion digital identity checks are anticipated in 2024. This surge is predominantly due to the digital transformation of traditionally in-person services, which has underscored the importance of building trust with users. The new FIDO certification programme is designed to help organisations make more informed decisions when selecting biometric identity verification solutions, ensuring secure and equitable access to digital services globally.

Andrew Bud, the founder and CEO of iProov, commented on this achievement, stating, "For the first time, governments and enterprises worldwide can rely on an industry-recognised, large-scale biometric performance standard and certification programme. Key partners within the industry have also expressed their support and accolades for iProov's achievement. Loren Russon, SVP Product & Technology Alliances at Ping Identity, noted, "Ping has long supported the evolution from knowledge-based approaches to type 3 strong authentication methods that use biometrics. This FIDO certification of iProov's Dynamic Liveness Solution signals to the industry that inherence-based approaches are critical for robust onboarding and account recovery." Russon also mentioned that this certification bolsters the PingOne DaVinci orchestration platform, further enhancing the Ping Identity portfolio.
