HP unveils secure HP Elite t660 Thin Client for 2025

HP has declared the upcoming release of its new HP Elite t660 Thin Client, touted to be the most secure desktop thin client PC globally.

This device is designed for desktop virtualisation and cloud-based applications, offering significant security enhancements by shifting data storage to the cloud and prioritising privacy. These capabilities are particularly crucial for professionals in sectors such as government, finance, healthcare, retail, and media, enabling them to access data and systems securely from any location.

Historically, the security integrity of thin clients has been a point of concern. If a device's firmware is compromised, it can expose the user to significant risks, such as screen viewing and keystroke injection by threat actors.

Isla Hutchinson from Spark Communications stated, "The HP Elite t660 is secure by design, equipped with HP BIOS and Wolf Security, and coupled with case intrusion detection to help ensure your information remains safe, even if attackers attempt to compromise devices below the Operating System level."

The HP Elite t660 is expected to be available for purchase on the HP website in March 2025, with pricing details to be announced at a later date.

HP emphasised that as the demand for secure, uncomplicated endpoints continues to grow with the rise of cloud workspaces and AI-driven digital transformation, the HP Elite t660 Thin Client is poised to meet these advancing needs, providing robust security, manageability, and performance.

According to a statement from HP, "The Elite t660 is equipped with HP's exclusive HP Wolf Security platform to protect from threats while also simplifying cloud client management — all while delivering 58% more powerful performance gen-over-gen." The enhancements claim a significant boost in endpoint security and resiliency, underpinned by the HP Wolf Security platform.

The thin client integrates various protective measures like HP Sure Start, HP Sure Admin, and HP Secure Erase, distinguishing itself from other solutions that might incorporate third-party security onto less robust foundations.

Processing and display capabilities have also improved. The device supports 13th-generation Intel Core Processors with five cores, up to 32GB of memory, and up to four 4K displays. It is notably the first HP desktop thin client to support 5K display resolution.

Regarding sustainability, HP highlights that the Elite t660 is part of its eco-conscious PC portfolio, comprising at least 50% post-consumer recycled plastics and a fanless 45W system design that uses 30% less power than a conventional desktop. The device has received EPEAT Gold Registration and is ENERGY STAR Certified.
