Gallagher Security chief celebrates 20 years of growth
Gallagher Security Chief Executive Mark Junge has reflected on 20 years with the business, outlining his views on its culture, growth and position in the security sector.
Junge joined Gallagher in 2006 and has held senior roles in procurement, supply chain, global operations and general management before becoming chief executive in 2023. During that time, he has been involved in the company's international expansion and the development of its presence in higher-security markets.
He said the company's internal culture had remained central both to that progress and to his decision to stay with the business for two decades.
"Our strong culture naturally flows through to performance," Junge said.
He also pointed to recruitment as a source of confidence as the business continues to expand.
"And today, the caliber of people we're continuing to attract into the business is incredibly high, it's something I'm really proud of," he said.
Growth record
Gallagher Security has expanded sharply in recent years, with revenue and scale increasing several times over since the middle of the past decade. Junge said continued investment in product development and research and development formed part of the company's long-term approach.
"We've more than doubled the size of the business since 2021 and five times since 2015, and we continue to invest heavily back into product and R&D to support long-term growth," he said.
Part of Gallagher Group, the company operates from Hamilton in New Zealand and focuses on security systems for commercial and government users. Junge linked that growth to a broader effort to build credibility in tightly regulated and higher-assurance settings.
He said that work had strengthened Gallagher Security's position in the United States and other international markets, while widening its reach across several sectors.
"The credibility that we've built around high security, particularly through innovations like PIV in the United States and our Type 1A solutions, has elevated our reputation globally. We have a strong reputation in high-security and high-compliance environments, but we're also seeing great success across a wide range of verticals including government, health, education, manufacturing, distribution, and data centers," Junge said.
People focus
Alongside the commercial performance, Junge said the social purpose of the security sector remained an important part of his motivation. He described the work as reducing risk for workers and organisations and helping protect sites and assets.
"It's an incredibly rewarding industry to be part of," he said. "The human impact of keeping people safe, knowing they'll get home to their families safely, that their assets are protected, that's huge. When our solutions are part of mitigating serious incidents, it reinforces the responsibility we carry and makes me incredibly proud of what we do."
He also said the company's ownership structure shaped its outlook. He pointed to family ownership as helping preserve a long-term approach as the group expands into new regions and brings in new staff.
"We're growing quickly, bringing on incredible talent, and expanding into new regions. That diversity of thought and skillset is making a real difference," Junge said. "At the same time, preserving the culture that comes with family ownership allows us to take a long-term view, which is incredibly important to me - and to the ongoing success of the business."
Despite the scale of the business today, Junge said his personal connection to Gallagher Security had not weakened.
"When we talk about our growth and what we're achieving as a team, I still get that proud feeling in my chest. It's something I've genuinely enjoyed being part of, and I'm looking forward to continuing that journey well into the future," he said.
Group tribute
Gallagher Group Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Kahl Betham also commented on Junge's role in the business, linking his leadership to the company's international development and its relationships with employees and partners.
"Mark's leadership has been instrumental in shaping the success of our security business. His commitment to our people, our partners, and our long-term vision has helped drive Gallagher's growth globally. We are incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone with him and look forward to what the future holds under his leadership," Betham said.
The customer relationship was another recurring theme in Junge's remarks. He said the business had built its model around steady expansion and sustained investment rather than short-term gains.
"Strong, steady growth and long-term investment have always been our model," he said. "That's what best supports our customers and gives them the confidence to partner with us in the long term."
