Equinox IT appoints Victoria MacLennan as director

Equinox IT has appointed Victoria MacLennan as an Independent Director, adding a new member to the Wellington technology consultancy's board.

MacLennan joins Chair and Executive Director Paul Ramsay and Non-Executive Director Richard Leeke as the company expands its work in artificial intelligence, cloud and digital services.

Her appointment brings public and private sector experience in technology governance, digital policy and advisory roles, strengthening governance as Equinox IT broadens its focus across AI and wider technology transformation work.

MacLennan is known in New Zealand's technology sector for roles spanning standards, cybersecurity and industry policy. Her governance positions include Chair of the Standards Approval Board, member of the Ministerial Cyber Security Advisory Committee and Co-Chair of the Digital Technologies Industry Transformation Partnership Board.

She has also worked with private sector companies as a director and adviser, while mentoring and coaching chief executives. Earlier in her career, she co-founded data analytics consultancy OptimalBI, later acquired by Ackama, and served as Chief Executive of IT Professionals NZ.

Outside those roles, MacLennan has been involved in digital inclusion and skills initiatives. She has chaired Digital Future Aotearoa and served as ngā kaiurungi, or Co-Chair, of the Digital Equity Coalition Aotearoa.

The board change comes as many technology services firms seek stronger oversight of AI adoption, cyber risk and digital investment. For companies advising clients on technology change, board-level governance has become more visible as customers weigh security, workforce impact and regulatory expectations.

In comments released alongside the appointment, MacLennan highlighted those pressures. "Equinox IT has built a strong reputation for delivering practical, secure and people-first technology," said Victoria MacLennan, Independent Director, Equinox IT.

She also addressed AI's effect on business operations and the role she expects to play on the board. "AI is fundamentally changing how organisations operate, and the challenge now is to help businesses navigate that shift safely, securely, and with real capability. I look forward to contributing my expertise in governance and technology leadership to help shape that strategy and support Equinox IT's next phase of growth," MacLennan said.

Board expansion

Equinox IT has operated since 1995 and works with clients on business change, cloud transformation and application delivery projects. The Wellington-based company says it helps organisations manage business challenges and technology change.

The appointment also adds to the board's standing in New Zealand's technology policy and governance circles. That may prove relevant as firms in the sector face closer scrutiny over how AI tools are introduced and managed in operational settings.
