ADT New Zealand introduces DIY home security solution

Wed, 1st May 2024

ADT New Zealand is reshaping the home security landscape with its new do-it-yourself (DIY) solution. Aimed at alleviating homeowners' biggest security concerns, the new offering promises quick installation, flexibility, and high-level protection without the handcuffs of long-term contracts or the need to wait for a scheduled technician visit.

This ground-breaking solution, set to launch on May 1st, is a first of its kind in New Zealand. Offering homeowners a system that is professionally monitored yet personally installed, it seeks to mitigate the risk of repeat burglaries, a fate that befalls about 23 percent of burgled households, according to the New Zealand Ministry of Justice.

Dennison Hambling, Managing Director of Intelligent Monitoring Group, ADT's parent company, explained that "When time is of the essence, deciding on a security system is often a compromise between a professionally monitored solution and a DIY device from retailers. The decision comes down to availability, speed of installation, and affordability." According to Mr Hambling, the new ADT offering has squarely addressed these concerns by developing a DIY system that is fast, advanced, flexible, and unburdened by contracts.

Hambling further outlined, "Gone are the days of waiting weeks for security installations. With ADT's DIY offering, coupled with the support of our licensed security professionals, anyone can secure their homes themselves and have fun doing it."

The streamlined four-step installation process involves collaborating with ADT to identify suitable system components, delivering the chosen components to homeowners' doors, access to support from licensed security professionals, and immediate system activation with 24/7 back-to-base monitoring. The system, which boasts a self-checking feature, offers homeowners the chance to test the installation themselves, thereby providing instant peace of mind.

This DIY solution also presents a host of unique features. It operates independently of the home Wi-Fi via its own SIM card, ensuring continued operation even in a power cut or cable damage. An alarm is immediately activated upon any tampering attempts, and rechargeable batteries maintain the system function during power outages.

Customers can choose between full monitoring or light monitoring services and oversee their homes remotely through the ADT Smart Connect mobile app. To enhance its flexibility, the system does not mandate long-term contracts. Adding an extra layer of defence, the DIY system features a local alarm that activates during a security breach, serving as a strong deterrent to potential intruders.

As part of its future offering, ADT will introduce more customisable options, ensuring that homes or businesses are protected exactly as needed.
