SentinelOne unveils AI-powered security for serverless containers

Wed, 12th Jun 2024

SentinelOne has launched Singularity Cloud Workload Security for Serverless Containers. This new offering is designed to provide real-time, AI-powered protection for containerised workloads running on AWS Fargate for Amazon ECS and Amazon EKS. SentinelOne, a prominent player in AI-driven security solutions, aims to extend robust protection to ephemeral cloud environments, which, despite their short-lived nature, pose substantial security risks.

Brian Lanigan, Senior Vice President of Global Ecosystem at SentinelOne, noted the company's commitment to enabling customers to improve security outcomes through market-leading innovations and simple integrations. This launch is expected to deliver significant value to customers, as echoed by a Senior Software Engineer who praised the visibility of workload telemetry and the hunting capabilities of the new security solution.

Ephemeral containerised workloads on AWS Fargate offer rapid scale and deployment, providing both business and technical agility. However, the transitory nature of these resources does not inherently equate to security. Attackers can exploit these fleeting workloads within seconds, leveraging them as entry points to more valuable and persistent resources. Ely Kahn, Vice President of Product Management for Cloud Security at SentinelOne, emphasised the necessity of protecting these resources, particularly as enterprises increasingly adopt serverless infrastructure to enhance innovation at scale.

Singularity Cloud Workload Security for Serverless Containers utilises five autonomous detection engines to identify real-time runtime threats, including ransomware, zero-day vulnerabilities, and fileless exploits. This AI-powered runtime protection streamlines machine-speed response actions, ensuring that AWS customers can secure their containerised workloads. The solution is compatible across various launch platforms, from Amazon EC2 to AWS Fargate.

This product forms part of SentinelOne’s broader cloud security portfolio, which also includes Singularity Cloud Native Security and Singularity Cloud Data Security. These solutions are built on the Singularity Platform and Singularity Data Lake, providing a comprehensive Cloud Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP). The Singularity Platform offers protection across every endpoint, identity, and workload across all cloud environments, utilising advanced AI and machine learning to consolidate and contextualise insights within a unified, intelligent platform.

Another significant feature of the Singularity Platform is its integration of Purple AI, an advanced generative AI security analyst. This tool is designed to enhance the efficiency of Security Operations Centres (SOCs) by accelerating threat hunting and investigations, reducing Mean Time to Response, and delivering holistic AI-powered security. Ely Kahn highlighted the importance of combining SentinelOne’s agent and agentless capabilities with Purple AI to automate threat detection, triage, and investigations through natural language translation, summarisation, and guided hunting functionalities.

Singularity Cloud Workload Security support for Fargate EKS is now generally available, with support for Fargate ECS currently accessible to early adopters. SentinelOne continues to position itself as a leader in autonomous, AI-powered cybersecurity solutions, aimed at empowering organisations globally to run securely and stay ahead of evolving security challenges.
