In the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update list it was announced that the classic program, MS Paint, is not in active development and might be removed in future releases.

Paint was introduced in the first version of the Windows operating system in 1985.

Though Paint is fundamentally basic, that is what allowed it to appeal to the masses.

With a simple layout and a basic set of tools, the program allowed even the most untalented users to create masterpieces.

Over the years many great artistic works have been created in MS Paint, some content creators on Youtube even using the program to create complex animations.

The new update will also make a few other changes to the Windows 10 OS.

The first thing of note being updated is Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft continues to improve Edge in many ways.

With this release, Edge now has better PDF and EPUB support, a new read-aloud feature, an updated favourites system and a load of under the hood improvements for stability.

There are also input improvements which include the way users interact with Windows, whether that be with a mouse or keyboard, touchscreen, or pen.

Windows will also begin to throttle inactive programs.

Users will be able to recover Microsoft Account passwords directly from the lock screen.

Both Windows Defender and Exploit Guard are being updated to become more effective.

The settings panel is also getting an update, with new features and options.

Here are the most notable ones:

• About area has been redesigned with relevant information about system health.
• Storage Sense can now automatically delete files in your downloaded folder after 30 days.
• A new sidebar is present with contextual help tips and video.
• A new "Video Playback" option has been added with HDR and other video options.
• Cortana now has its own area in Settings.
• You can now track update download usage.

Yet, none of these changes and benefits really matter if they come at the cost of our beloved paint.

The program will be supplanted by an updated Paint 3D which was inspired by the original program.

It is a much more sophisticated program, however, focused on creating images in three dimensions with Microsoft's Surface Pen, rather than a mouse.

Update

In a statement released today, Microsoft announced that paint is not being tossed away yet.

a Spokesperson saying, "After 32 years, MS Paint has a lot of fans, it has been amazing to see so much love for our trusty old app.

"To set the record straight, clear up some confusion and share some good news: MS Paint is here to stay, it will just have a new home soon, in the Windows Store, where it will be available for free."
