Octave rebrands as it prepares spin-off from Hexagon
Octave has unveiled a new brand identity as it prepares to become an independent software company following a planned separation from Hexagon.
The business combines Hexagon's Asset Lifecycle Intelligence and Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial divisions, along with the Bricsys, ETQ and Projectmates businesses. Octave said the new identity is intended to unify these units under one organisation with a consistent go-to-market message.
Octave positions its software around four stages of the asset lifecycle-Design, Build, Operate and Protect. It targets operators and owners of industrial facilities and infrastructure, which it says face growing operational complexity and uncertainty.
Octave employs about 7,200 people across 45 countries and is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama.
Portfolio Scope
The rebrand brings together a portfolio spanning engineering design tools, construction and project controls software, operational information management, and safety and security systems. Octave said the combined offering is designed to address complexity across the full asset lifecycle, from planning and construction to ongoing operations and the protection of people, property and equipment.
Octave pointed to fragmented systems and inconsistent data as key challenges in heavy industry and infrastructure, saying leaders often struggle with information they cannot trust. Its approach focuses on consolidating data from multiple sources and applying analytics, including domain-specific artificial intelligence.
Under the Design pillar, Octave highlighted 3D modelling, engineering analysis, simulation and geospatial intelligence. It said these tools help teams create digital representations that guide downstream work.
The Build pillar covers engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning workflows. Octave said its software coordinates materials, tracks progress and manages changes, improving cost and schedule predictability through tighter coordination.
For Operate, Octave emphasised bringing together operational data, historical information, maintenance activities, quality systems and worker tools. It said this enables real-time insight and predictive intelligence, supporting improved asset and system performance.
The Protect pillar spans public safety, physical security and industrial cybersecurity, including incident response, emergency management, situational awareness, digital security and regulatory compliance.
Independence Plans
Octave described itself as a potential software spin-off from Hexagon and said the new identity is a step towards operating independently. The announcement did not provide timing for a separation or financial details.
Hexagon has expanded over many years through acquisitions in industrial software, surveying and geospatial technologies, and safety systems. Octave's proposed structure would group several of those software assets under a single banner.
Octave said it aims to serve organisations that run critical infrastructure and industrial operations-sectors characterised by long asset lifecycles, complex regulatory requirements and high downtime costs. Vendors in this market typically differentiate through domain expertise, integration with engineering and operational systems, and the ability to deploy at scale across global estates.
Brand Changes
The refresh includes a new visual identity and a new website at octave.com, alongside a new social media presence. Octave said it wants to explain more clearly how its software supports the lifecycle stages it has defined.
A single brand also provides a framework for cross-selling across engineering design, project execution and operational management. It may also simplify how customers evaluate product suites that previously sat under different division and product names within Hexagon.
Mattias Stenberg, Octave's chief executive officer, said the rebrand reflects how the company wants to be seen by industrial and infrastructure customers.
"Octave exists to help customers make better decisions when complexity is high and the stakes matter," Stenberg said. "We aren't just launching a logo; this is a commitment to help organizations achieve the outcomes that matter most. When failure isn't an option and success is essential, Octave provides the clarity and accountability leaders need to realize their most critical outcomes."
Octave said the next steps include rolling out the brand across its portfolio and building awareness as it moves towards independence.
