ESET offers free cybersecurity awareness training program
Fri, 19th May 2017
FYI, this story is more than a year old

With the recent news of the global ransomworm attacks, ESET is now offering free cybersecurity awareness training for anyone who wants to learn about cybersecurity and the risk of being attacked.

The training program is open to anyone worldwide. One company representative can register for an unlimited number of licenses so that all staff members can have individual access to the training.

ESET cites statistics from Australia's national CERT team, which responded to 14,804 incidents between July 2015 and June 2016 and therefore employee training is critical.

ESET senior research fellow Nick FitzGerald, says that in light of the WannaCry attacks, organisations were not only caught off guard, but forced to take a look at their own security - regardless of what sector they are in.

“IT security folk, in particular, have been placed under pressure to prepare re-active warning mechanisms for untrained staff to continually be wary of unexpected email messages, especially if they contain in any way ‘unusual' or unexpected attachments, or try to entice the reader to click on a link.

The training covers areas such as: Malware, phishing and social engineering threats; Password policies, best practices and two factor authentication; web and email protection and preventative measures.

“As in most ransomware attacks, the email distribution vector of WannaCryptor has capitalised on an understanding that most organisations will have one or more staff members who are not sufficiently trained to detect the warning signs of an attack. If more organisations offered easy access to cybersecurity training for their staff, WannaCryptor may have had little chance of success in the first place,” FitzGerald continues.

The course also includes a training overview, downloadable materials, internal communication templates and certificates.
