FYI, this story is more than a year old

Surface Go, Microsoft's smallest and most affordable Surface device yet is now available in New Zealand and Australia starting at $699NZD / $599AUD.

The 10-inch device weighs in at just under 500 grams and has a thickness of 8.3mm.

It is powered by an Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y which was chosen to manage performance, thinness and battery life which is stated as ‘up to 9 hours'.

“What began as a ‘tablet that can replace your laptop' has now grown to encompass a dynamic family of products, each designed to accommodate unique sets of customer needs and redefine what a PC should be,” says Microsoft APAC Surface product lead Jane Dore.

“The Surface Go is our answer for users who are looking for a portable and versatile device that suits their budgets, but without compromising what they have grown to love about our line-up.

It includes the Surface range's signature built-in kickstand with a full friction hinge and a 165-degree range of motion.

The screen is a custom-built high-resolution PixelSense display that supports Surface Pen with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, low pen parallax, low latency for precision tasks.

With the Type Cover and new Mobile Mouse Surface addons, it can replicate the functionality of a laptop.

For users who prefer a full desktop experience, the Surface Dock transforms the Surface Go into a workstation that lets users charge their Surface while connecting to a full-size keyboard and multiple external monitors.

Similar to other Surface devices, it features a custom calibrated 3:2 display.

In portrait mode, the screen is designed to render the page to the scale of most textbooks, while in landscape mode, it can render pages side by side.

The front-facing camera is HD with 5.0-megapixels, and the rear an auto-focus 8.0-megapixel HD camera, plus dual microphones for video calls.

The built-in OS is Windows 10 Home in S mode, though commercial customers can opt for Windows 10 Pro which brings business security features to protect devices and infrastructure from threats.

It also comes with Windows Autopilot, whereby the Surface Go can be unboxed and configured from the cloud, and Windows Hello, secure sign-in with facial recognition.
