Check Point and VMware team up for software defined data centre security

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Check Point Software has expanded its partnership with VMware to extend its security to enterprise customers through a new software-defined data center offering.

The deal sees Check Point's vSec virtual network security integrated with the VMware NSX network virtualisation platform. Check Point says the deal will mean customers can accelerate security service deployment and get the same level of security for traffic inside their data centers as Check Point provides at the perimeter gateway.

“This becomes especially important in today' dynamic cloud environments, where applications must be provisioned on-demand, and be highly portable across the infrastructure,” Check Point says.

The combined solution enables traffic, whether coming in and out of the data center or moving within the data center between applications, to be fully protected against malware, APTs and zero-day attacks.

Customers will get the benefit of advanced threat protection for east-west traffic inside the data center, dynamic deployment and scale out of Check Point vSec for software-defined data center environments and threat visibility across all data center traffic, Check Point says.

Scott Clinton, VMWare senior director, partner product management, network and security business unit, says today's dynamic data center environments require fast deployment of applications and security services must keep pace with compute resources.

“VMware NSX with Check Point vSec enables our mutual customers to simplify, accelerate and orchestrate Check Point's advanced security services across the software-defined data center.
