Vertiv launches AI-powered SmartAisle 3 for data centre efficiency boost
Thu, 18th Apr 2024

Vertiv, known as a provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, has introduced a significant step forward in micro modular data centre design. The company's latest offering, the Vertiv SmartAisle 3, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to markedly improve intelligence and operational efficiency within the data centre environment.

Already available in southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, the SmartAisle 3 can accommodate up to 120kW of total IT load. It is uniquely versatile, serving an array of industry applications from banking and healthcare to government and transport. SmartAisle 3 is an integrated data centre ecosystem combining racks, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), thermal management and monitoring, and physical security.

Notably evolving from the previous SmartAisle technology, the updated system features AI functionality and self-learning capabilities which optimise micro data centre operations and energy efficiency. Each SmartAisle 3 cabinet, or 'carriage', includes a Smart Power Output Device (POD). This device skilfully distributes power to the rack's power distribution units (PDUs), but also continuously monitors carriage conditions such as temperature, humidity and door status.

With built-in cabling integration and front and rear carriage sensors, along with eliminating intricate on-site cabling installation, the SmartAisle 3 can save valuable data centre white space. The SmartAisle 3 also simplifies system set up with a one-click networking feature. Its AI self-learning function intelligently monitors and adjusts temperature dependent on the operating environment. In doing so, it can achieve energy savings up to 20% while ensuring optimum operation conditions are maintained; this is compared to systems without AI features.

Businesses are increasingly requiring rapid and efficient deployment of their data centre infrastructure, given the rising demand for data-intensive applications. In response, Cheehoe Ling, vice president, product management at Vertiv Asia, commented, “Vertiv has enhanced the Vertiv SmartAisle 3 with AI features to help our customers simplify their data centre operations. This allows for greater flexibility in their business operation and helps them achieve their energy efficiency goals.”

Increasing system visibility and ease of troubleshooting is enabled with an intuitive 15-inch touch screen control panel. Users also have the option to upgrade to a 95-inch local door display. The SmartAisle 3 is equipped with the Vertiv Liebert APM modular UPS system, the Vertiv Liebert CRV 4 in-row cooling, and the Vertiv Liebert RDU 501 intelligent monitoring system. It comes pre-installed with a flexible busbar system, reducing power distribution installation complexity.

The Vertiv SmartAisle 3 is part of Vertiv's rapidly expanding portfolio of flexible, fully integrated modular solutions. Thanks to its combination of an environmental management system (EMS), AI functionality, and carriage-type rack architecture, it delivers customers an operational efficiency boost through intelligent monitoring and management. It provides ease of installation, quicker deployment, efficient operational conditions and adaptability to diverse compute environments.
