SAS Viya leads GenAI market with boosts to productivity & efficiency
Fri, 19th Apr 2024

In a landscape where many organisations are struggling to see the fruits of their GenAI endeavours, SAS Viya SAS Viya is helping customers accelerate efficiency and productivity.

Data and AI platform, SAS Viya, is distinguishing itself with the adept utilisation of large language models (LLM) to provide an acceleratory boost to customer productivity and efficiency.

Through 2024, SAS aims to advance its GenAI services, notably launching SAS Data Maker, a proprietary synthetic data generator. This would address critical challenges without jeopardising sensitive data. Additionally, SAS will bring forth industry-focused GenAI assistants, thereby expanding its trustworthy GenAI footprint.

"SAS guiding principle is everyone should be able to query data and perform complex analytical operations in every phase of the data and analytics life cycle, and generative AI is crucial in this democratisation journey," said Wiktor Markiewicz, Senior Market Research Analyst at IDC.

One prominent SAS customer, Georgia-Pacific, has harnessed Viya's possibilities to its advantage. Vice President, Collaboration & Support Centre at Georgia-Pacific, Roshan Shah, states, "When challenges emerge with our manufacturing equipment or process, we leverage sensor data, business rules, recommender systems and generative AI to suggest the appropriate next best action and resolve the problem."

"One of SAS core strengths is our deep bench of industry knowledge. We understand manufacturing, and we understand Georgia-Pacific's unique challenges," said SAS Executive Vice President and CTO Bryan Harris.

"We help them appropriately scale LLM orchestration and manufacturing-specific GenAI assistant strategies so their employees can use those cutting-edge applications to troubleshoot real-time operational issues."

Using SAS for AI support, global brick manufacturer Wienerberger has managed to reduce energy consumption, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance product quality.

"SAS Analytics brings intelligence to the kiln by helping us gain valuable data from each step of the production process, making brick drying and firing more economical," said Florian Zittmayr, Team Lead for Data Science at Wienerberger.

The GenAI functionality of Viya has also helped a global consumer goods manufacturer optimise warehouse space, allocate inbound shipments, and compare what-if scenarios based on product demand. The LLM-based digital assistant developed by SAS can update Visual Analytics dashboards dynamically, empowering supply chain teams to improve warehouse space use and save time.

As part of SAS's GenAI offering, Viya showcases its strength in pragmatic, industry-driven applications, fostering secure adoption and fostering accelerated productivity and trusted results across diverse industries. Other promising products include the Viya Copilot – a personal assistant to enhance productivity and SAS Data Maker - addressing data privacy and scarcity challenges without compromising sensitive information. Furthermore, SAS continues to infuse GenAI capabilities into its flagship MarTech solution, SAS Customer Intelligence 360, which aids marketers in enhancing the customer experience.

Therefore, Viya's GenAI functionality plays a crucial role in accelerating innovation, protecting data, generating trustworthy and explainable results, enhancing governance and enabling more precise decisions.
